EDU 271: Educational Technologyintroduces the use of technology to enhance teaching and learning in all educational settings. Topics include: technology concepts, instructional strategies, materials and adaptive technology for children with exceptionalities, facilitation of assessment/evaluation, ethical issues surrounding the use of technology.

 

College-Level Hybrid/Web-Enhanced Courses

Tutor Training modules following College Reading and Learning Association guidelines for tutor training programs—based on constructivist, problem-based learning—includes role play, simulations, WebQuests, and a variety of multimedia.

ENG 099: Developmental English—focuses on developing basic skills required for effective writing with an emphasis on sentence and paragraph development.

ENG 101: Composition I—focuses on developing skills required for effective writing in a variety of contexts in academic and professional writing with an emphasis on the five-paragraph expository essay.

ENGL 0510: Critical Reading—Designed as remediation for the reading portion of the Regents’ Testing Program, this course provides instruction in analyzing expository, argumentative, and narrative writing. The course endeavors to enrich students’ vocabulary, to increase their reading speed, and to improve their comprehension skills, including strengthening their ability to understand figurative language and to make sound inferences. Revised syllabus to utilize Internet and CD Rom exercises.

ENGL 1102: College Composition II—Literature-based, composition course further develops writing skills. Emphasizes interpretation, evaluation, and more advanced research methods. Includes instruction in composition of a research paper.  Revised syllabus to be theme oriented—affects of sexism, classism, racism, and ethnocentrism from a literary perspective. Created website with resources.

ENG 102: Composition II—focuses on developing writing skills with an emphasis on argumentation and research.

ENG 232: Introduction to Literature—presents different types of literature including poetry, fiction, and drama for analysis and discussion.

ENGL 0520: Expository Writing—Designed as remediation for the writing portion of the Regents’ Testing Program, this course provides instruction in extemporaneous composing of expository and argumentative essays. The course emphasizes organization, development, and coherence.

ENGL 1101: College Composition I—Focuses on skills required for effective writing in a variety of contexts, with emphasis on exposition, analysis, and argumentation. This course also includes introductory use of a variety of research skills. Provides instruction in word processing and in computer-based research.

ENGL 0097: Developmental English I—This course provides instruction in writing sentences, composing paragraphs, and editing compositions. Course work includes intensive writing practice, analyses of sample compositions, and group and individual assignments.
